Awareness in and of Self Is Key to Change

The true value of self awareness is having a clear understanding of your personality, strengths and weaknesses, thoughts, motivation, emotions and personal belief systems. It is through self awareness that we can understand how other people distinguish us and how we respond to them and ultimately, to the environment that revolves around us.

As we go through our daily lives, we may quickly assume that we are self aware. Little do we know that more often than not our subconscious and unconscious takes over placing us on a “trance”. Trances are automatic programming that is being utilized by the mind to allow us to function more efficiently without have to tap into conscious states.

It is because of trances that we can drive, take a shower, finish our lunch or in some cases even perform complex mathematics without having to think of every detail about the task. In other words, trances are habitual patterns that makes us react and cope. Awareness on the other hand makes us respond to anything or anyone while consciously processing information.

This is not to say that trances are bad. In fact, without our automatic responses to things we really cannot efficiently function. This is only to point out that most of our reactions, especially those that are negative in nature are in fact, trances. If we allow our understanding of our “trances” and how these mental programs are created to expand, we are a step closer to self mastery.

Because having awareness creates the opportunity to make changes in behavior and collapse our negative belief systems.

Developing Self Awareness

It is important to understand that development of self-awareness is a lifelong process. It doesn’t stop at any stage in our lives. This is because the nature of life is in constant becoming.

Developing self awareness can give way to a better understanding in thoughts and change interpretations of how the world works from deeper consciousness.

Self awareness is among the attributes of Emotional Intelligence and is essential in achieving a successful and happy life.

We cannot work on our lives placing the efforts on developing self awareness as the last. In fact, it is the first step in creating that life you have always wanted. Self awareness is the key to defining your life purpose for it determines how you understand and can change your behavior, emotions and personality to be more aligned to your long-term goals.

In other words, until you can learn how to break negative thought cycles, collapse negative belief systems and reprogram your trances to work for you and not against you, you will have a difficulty in making changes in the direction of your life.
